The Zimmermann Telegram, or Zimmermann Note was a message sent from Germany to Mexico in the hopes of forming an alliance to fend off the U.S and provide easier routes to invade the U.S. David Kahn, who wrote The Codebreakers, says that "No other single cryptanalysis has had such enormous consequences." He also stated that "never before or since has so much turned upon the solution of a secret message." This shows how much of an impact upon the world the Zimmermann Telegram had, and how it changed the course of history and possibly the outcome of World War I and II. The telegram was sent from Germany in January 1917 to the German ambassador in the U.S, for him to forward to Mexico's government.
